possible topic

okay, so possible topic number 1 (or at least number 1 since i've started this blog), initially suggested by my new faculty mentor.

exploring and examining the social construction of gender, the social construction of pathology and how feminist theology and feminist therapy could speak to the limitations of these soical constructions.

i will learn to communicate that more clearly and succinctly. this would incorporate a social critique into our intimate ares of life -- gender identity, pathology, etc. (especially given that both feminist psychology and feminist theology contain a heavy social critique). moreover, i could incorporate the question/issue of pathology, which is exciting and may help build me clinical skills. another positive is that this topic would lend itself to a great deal of application as opposed to dealing so heavily with esoteric philosophical ideas (not that it's bad to discuss philosophical ideas -- and I would most likely explore the philosophical underpinnings of this social construction). i might also narrow to discussing the pathology of women specifically -- in a phyllis chesler, women and madness kind of way? perhaps drawing heavily from her book and then adding newer support as well.

thoughts? questions? concerns?
